Typically cup cakes are small cakes that is meant to be served to one person and they are generally made or more correctly baked in tiny paper or aluminum cups. In fact in the earlier centuries these cakes were baked in separate pottery cups or molds and were named after the cups they were prepared in. In fact this name has stuck and today a cake that is the size of a tiny tea cup is still called a cup cake.
Now there is also another kind of cake wherein the ingredients were measured in a standard cup instead of them being measured by weight. These were cakes that were called cup-cakes too and they could also be baked in separate cup, but they were more usually baked in cake tins like loaves of bread. They were also called the 1234 cakes as the ingredients used were in the measure of 1 cup of butter, 2 cups sugar, 3 cups flour and 4 eggs. Basically when making the usual cup cake, the recipe is similar to the standard cakes, the only difference being that they are baked in tiny containers and they get baked faster too.
Today the cup-cake is an all time favorite. Like any other tiny cakes near me this can also be topped with various scrumptious creams and fillings that are piped into a hole in the center of the cakes. Cup cakes can be cut horizontally through the center, spread with any creamy mixtures like butter cream, whipped chocolate cream or any other that suit one’s fancy on the bottom half and the top half is stuck over it.
As technology improved special pans were introduced that resembled muffin tins to bake these cakes. These oven proof pans that have six or a dozen depressions are by and large made of metal and may or may not have non-stick coating. There are other materials that are also used to make these pans. You may use separate cake liners that are generally round sheets of fluted butter paper or extremely thin aluminum foil and these liners help to remove the cake easily from the tins.
Cup cakes are small and really look good, are less messy and they practically melt in the mouth. In fact the concept of these cakes took on popularity pretty recently more so because they are extremely convenient during celebration time and especially when you would like to send friends a great gift. Actually in India many people have been replacing the traditional sweets with cup-cakes during festival time. They can be made to order in any flavor of your choice like apple, strawberry, blueberry, grape, lemon, passion fruit, cinnamon etc. You can even utilize pre-packed cake mixes to make cakes by simply baking the mixture in the cake tins.
